There are many Chinese characters to learn. One of the easiest ways to learn to read and write is to study
the characters of most common usage. As there are over 40,000 characters it is best to limit your knowledge
to the characters of most common usage or you can go on studying a life time and never finish. I found a list
of these characters on a free site on the internet. . The trick is to learn the 1000 most commonly used Characters
not any old character. Many of the text books teach you to read and write in a manner that is easiest to remember
but some of those characters you may never need. I found a site that carefully put the characters in order of most
common usage. It is a free site. http://www.learnchineseez.com/characters/learn-to-write-chinese/
I had a teacher that sent me to the local book store where she had me buy the books for children on learning
to write. Unlike our western book stores there were more books on math that anything else. I learned at these
book stores that is why the Chinese are better than we Americans in math I bought many children’s books that
taught me to draw as I didn’t follow the instructions. I used to eat in a little restaurant in Lijiang. The owner of the
restaurant sat me at a table with her 7 year old child and we both would do our home work together. Learning to
write Characters was our home work. Another little boy said," Lisa is doing my homework, does that mean she
is going to get younger!"
