I have compared several schools before my decision. I want to learn Chinese well and I also like to know Chinese culture. And I think the attitude of the teacher, the consultant here are all very positive. I like to stay with them and get the care from th
I had some Indian Clients flying in to Shanghai for the music convention of which one is a vegetarian. We moved
to a supposedly closer hotel to the convention than my normal hotel. Also my hotel had gone up in price. Now I’m in a
new area of Shanghai. I don’t know the streets the restaurants or anything. The hotel is a left over from the times of Mao
and not very typical of today’s Shanghai. I was starting to panic thinking how am I going to find things vegetarian for this
young man. I walked through the restaurant that is associated with the hotel and it would not do. Then I walked down the
street and saw very expensive sea food restaurants where you pick out your own fish. I tried a tang bao, soup filled dumpling,
restaurant that was rather large. Not only was it not good they gave my dish to someone else. I ate at the hotel restaurant
for breakfast and immediately got sick. After I more or less recovered, I walked around the neighbor hood and saw a little
restaurant with six little tables. They had a window display of some dishes and everyone was eating shui jiao, boiled dumplings
and soup. I went in and ordered a plate of shui jiao and explained my situation. The people were very nice. The shui jiao were
exquisite made right in front of me. I returned with my guests and we were treated to a great meal. We ordered three plates of
vegetables like mu er, a type of black mushroom very popular in China, green beans sautéed in garlic and bean sprouts in
sesame oil. Then we ordered on plate of shui jiao with egg and greens and one with beef and greens. The meal was like the
most delicate high class meal one could make. We had two bottles of beer and the total price came to 10 US dollars for the
three of us. There are still bargains to be had in Shanghai.
