I have compared several schools before my decision. I want to learn Chinese well and I also like to know Chinese culture. And I think the attitude of the teacher, the consultant here are all very positive. I like to stay with them and get the care from th
The new president Xi jin Ping has declared a war on corruption. The result has been that the lavish dinners of the
most expensive of everything among high up government officials has all but stopped. My Chinese friends who were
sent to take care of the high officials are quite happy as they no longer are forced to get drunk. China unlike a lot of
European countries perceives getting completely drunk as a complement to the host. In Europe most people slowly
sip their drinks and getting drunk is seen as someone who is completely out of control and disrespected. Getting a little
happy is fine but loosing the ability to talk clearly or walk straight is unacceptable. Chinese drinking is so severe that
some of the people would reserve hospital beds so they could recover with a drip attachment after a night of binge drinking.
Due to the presidents new policy where it has really been felt is in Scotland! The sales of Scotch whisky have dropped
way down due to the new Chinese policy. Somehow someone had convinced the officials that only the best Scotch whisky
was to be served at the galas. When I was in Taiwan years ago the French had convinced the Taiwanese to drink cognac
like wine. Taiwan had the highest consumption of French cognac per capita in the world. Most of us might have cognac
as an after dinner drink but we never drink it in place of wine. I don’t know if this is still the custom in Taiwan but the pattern
has repeated itself in main land China with Scotch! Sorry Scotland, China is on an anti corruption kick.
