Red wine sales in China have surpassed even the USA and France. China’s budding middle class has taken a
liking to all the high end wines. Twenty years ago it was almost impossible to buy a bottle of wine in china except for
a cheap undrinkable sweet white wine. Now all over China people are drinking wine. It is available in all the super
markets and convenience stores. The prices of a glass of wine in a bar are much higher than most places across Europe
and the States. The prices are comparable to places like San Francisco and New York. It is a bit difficult to choose a good
wine in China as sometimes what is inside the bottle seems to change with the frequency. Two bottles are labeled the
same but what is inside isn’t. I used to have a Spanish friend who exported to China so he told me what Chinese label his
wine was called. I was drinking it for a few months quite happily. Then one day I went to buy the same bottle of wine and
what was inside was so horrible I threw it down the toilet. The company had obviously obtained a different supplier!
