I imagine that Spain copied China where the Chinese YouTiao are called Churros. The Chinese mainly eat them for breakfast just plane. The dough isn’t sweetened but then dipped in milk or just eaten by them. Recently I was at a restaurant in Jiang su near Wuxi. The restaurant brought out youtiao stuffed with a shrimp mixture. In Spain the youtiao of Churros are also not sweet. They are dipped in hot chocolate which is sweet or eaten with a sprinkling of sugar to taste. The custom of eating churros late at night before going to bad after a night on the town seems to be equal in both countries. Thinking about all the different ways you can eat the Youtiao or Churros makes one want to go out and get a bag full right away. Both China and Spain have little stands dedicated to making these wonderful doughnuts. People wait in line to get them made fresh. They are very simple but it takes a lot of skill to get them just right..
