Due to the convenience of face book I’ve connected with a lot of old friends I would not have otherwise found. So much so a friend I’ve not seen in 50 years showed up to visit me in my country home. For many years he has been coming to Spain with his wife on educational retreats. What is even funnier is he has been coming here almost as long as I have owned my country home. It very closes but we never knew that both of us had been attracted to the same area of the world. This is a natural wild life and farming area. He used to live in Paris so the contrast is appealing. Had it not been for face book I would never have known that he was right next door every year. We had met while studying guitar in Alicante during the Franco years. Then we met again in Paris. Once again we were all studying with the world’s greatest guitarists. We all stayed in a Vietnamese hotel on the posh island of San Luis in the late sixties. We had no contact since then until a couple years ago and even though we were writing to each other it took two years to find out we were in the same vicinity in Spain. The expression in Spanish for all these coincidences is that El mundo es un panuelo, The World is a handkerchief.
