I have compared several schools before my decision. I want to learn Chinese well and I also like to know Chinese culture. And I think the attitude of the teacher, the consultant here are all very positive. I like to stay with them and get the care from th
My father spoke Portuguese and Spanish. Whenever he spoke another language his personality changed. This is sometimes good and sometimes bad. In my father’s case he got very animated particularly when he spoke Portuguese. He had learned to speak Portuguese in Brazil as a young man. I have another friend who was raised by his grandparents in the United States who spoke Spanish to him. He is very outgoing and confident in English but when he speaks Spanish he goes in the little boy mode and is a totally different person. His grandparents were very dominating consequently when he speaks Spanish he loses all his self confidence although it is almost on a native level. It is important to keep in mind when learning a new language that it is enjoyable. Actually this is true of learning anything but particularly a language. One of the joys of learning Mandarin in China is the positive re enforcement most all Chinese give you just for the effort of trying to speak mandarin. It is so rare that foreigners make the effort that everyone is shocked if you do speak it or even try. I found when I study out of China it takes me much longer to learn new material than when I’m in China. It is the positive re enforcement that changes my attitude. Everyone giving compliments first of all makes me happy and secondly increases my ability to learn.
