Super ordinate goals are important to understand in life. It is where two or more groups are trying to achieve the same goal. To accomplish that goal they must work together. It is worth understanding as it was found the best way to get people to work together. If you just put people together that won’t necessary make them share anything or become friends. It might be similar if you are asked out on a date and don’t have any plans. What makes the friendship is trying to do something together. It is a term used in Psychology for understanding how to motivate people out of segregation in schools for example. If you look at your life people will tend to hold friendships with people they have had a similar goal. For me I have maintained some of the friendships I established when I was first studying Mandarin as well as guitar. Now 50 years later a bunch of us guitarist are trying to put a music festival together with the goal of uniting with all the friends we made when we were students. We all shared the long hours of practice and joy of music. We especially enjoyed the fun times together where we were just joking around. It is a valuable tool in life as these are the friends around the world that you already know and can collaborate with. Every time I take a new course, I make new friends. I learn from them and have the advantage that I have a new contact in another part of the world.
