Much like the sand storms from the Gobi dessert in China we have hot wind storms from the Sahara desert called Siroccos. They come from Africa often at hurricane like speed. It is winter here in southern Spain and very cold at night but warm during the day. Last night one of the siroccos came in bringing with it the hot desert air. Having lived through these storms I know that I must tie down the Persian blinds or they will be blown away. Last night as the high winds came in blowing all the leaves from the tree and making it difficult to walk down the street, I recalled an incident that happened in my house. I remembered that some friends had been visiting from Canada. They now live in Granada but at the time they were new to the sirocco and hadn’t tied down the Persian blinds. As the wind started to take away one of the blinds Gloria grabbed it. It lifted her off the ground like a parachute. Fortunately she wasn’t alone and a Canadian guitarist who was visiting caught her by the ankle just as she was about to fly off the balcony.
