Education can be used as a money making device or for education for education’s sake. In prior years worldwide or in the USA and Europe if one had a desire to get an education there were always ways to afford it. I first started horseback riding and my parents could afford it but really didn’t approve. What did I do? I cleaned stalls to be able to ride. Only one of our gang at the time could afford a horse who was Caroline. Although she didn’t have to she would help the rest of us clean the stalls so we could all ride together. Later I didn’t have the money to study guitar but I applied for a scholarship to go to Europe to study. The cost of travel was the big expense as the courses in Italy were subsidized by Count Chigi. We only paid a registration fee. In Spain it was another story. I don’t remember the costs but it was quite expensive. We were all disgruntled a bit as the housing and food had a lot to be desired. When the course was primarily by scholarship our teacher taught how he wanted to teach. The good students got classes’ everyday and the beginners maybe once a week. Once we all paid the same amount of money in the University of California at Berkeley for example we all had to play every day. The classes were not as interesting because only a high level student was able to make progress every day. As soon as the motive changed to money instead of education the entire program went downhill.
