As a result, paper-cut has been a symbol of Chinese traditional culture. It has a lot of patterns and colors which means different connotations. But the most popular color is red.
The reason why paper-cut is so popular lies in what it connotations. Paper-cut has auspicious omen. And people used to express their desire for happy life of future through paper-cut. They believed they can get a happier life in the near future in this way. The art of paper-cut has a long history, and it is said that paper-cut originated in West Han dynasty and got a leap of development in Tang dynasty. Because paper-cur had been very popular in Zhaohun,a religious activity. Until Song dynasty, along the development of paper industry, paper-cut also got a great progress. It reached to a mature degree in Ming and Qing dynasty.
The art of paper-cut is widely applied among Chinese people. The paper is usually used to decorate on the window and presents, and some lamp patterns.
In order to carry forward Chinese traditional culture, our Mandarin Garden often holds different cultural activities every month. In 26 June, our teachers and about 10 students have a happy time together through the activity of paper-cut in our headquarter of Changning District. In the activity, the students actively learn how to make paper-cut with the teachers. And at last, they take photos with the beautiful paper-cuts that they make by themselves. They get a deeper understanding and a happy experience of Chinese culture, which will also better help them learn Chinese.
