I have found that incorrect instruction is a major problem with foreign speakers. Sometimes it is a government policy

and sometimes it is just because there is a lack of native speakers. I had to coach a young child to help her pass her English

exam. When I saw what was being taught in school I was horrified. She had to learn English incorrectly to pass the exam.

Her text book had been written by a non native speaker who had been the daughter of the minister of education. By chance

I met the author as she turned out to be the girl friend of a friend of mine. She had studied English for a year in England so

was perceived as an expert. It was a moral dilemma. What do I do? Do I help this young girl learn English incorrectly to pass

her exam or do I teach her correctly and then she would fail the exam.What I finally did was teach her the way to pass her exam

and also taught her what was correct. This is a worldwide problem dealing with foreign languages. It is very important always

to look at what nationality is the person who has written a dictionary or textbook. For a dictionary and a language textbook you

need two people who are native speakers of both languages. Make sure when you are choosing a language method to look at

the authors to avoid that problem.
